Frequently Asked Questions

What is Friendship House’s biggest need for volunteers?

Our biggest need for volunteers is after school, helping our kiddos with homework, reading, and other school projects. Additionally, we welcome volunteers to assist with meals by helping prepare, serve, and clean up. We have two locations where we need volunteers.

What is the volunteer application process like?

The process to become a volunteer at Friendship House varies depending on whether or not you will be in the classroom. All volunteers are required to submit an application and undergo a background check to ensure a high standard of safety.  For those in the classroom, completing a 16-hour course is required to ensure the highest quality of care and support.

How much time commitment is expected from volunteers, and are there any flexible options available?

There is a two-hour minimum time commitment expected from volunteers. We have a variety of tasks and opportunities available to suit a wide range of schedules, allowing for flexibility and accommodating the availability of our volunteers. We value the time you contribute towards supporting our Friendship House and serving our community.

What kind of tasks will I be performing as a volunteer at Friendship House?

That’s up to you! We have lots of tasks available depending on your preferences and skill set. Some of the tasks we need help with include: serving meals, tutoring, chaperoning, cleaning the building or vehicles, and performing general maintenance. If you have skills outside of these that you’d like to offer, we’d love to talk with you more!
